With strong values rooted in style, comfort, and craftsmanship, OluKai is a premium Hawaiian-inspired lifestyle brand that works to create footwear with durability for the ocean lifestyle. Their name is Hawaiian for "comfortable ocean", which sums up what they're all about.
A year into launching their online store on Magento 2, OluKai was growing frustrated with the numerous issues they kept running into on the platform. Along with an unstable site and far too much downtime, the site wasn't doing what they needed it to do. After struggling to work with offshore developers, the team at OluKai decided to scrap the Magento 2 site, as they knew it was time to look for a new eCommerce solution and a new partner agency to help with the transition.
Aside from migrating from Magento 2 to a new platform, OluKai had some real challenges that needed addressing to elevate their overall eCommerce presence. With a stronger, more effective online customer experience for OluKai customers, they also wanted to tackle mobile optimization and user experience through a more modern interface. They also needed help simplifying their overall eCommerce operations and platform management to make day-to-day tasks simpler and more efficient for the team. They selected PIVOT to help with this undertaking as they moved OluKai.com and OluKai.ca (Canada) over to Shopify Plus.
Although it was a huge undertaking, PIVOT was able to successfully migrate all of OluKai's data from the Magento 2 platform over to Shopify Plus--and remarkably built and launched the new site in a mere 60 days.
"This was a hyper-focused project because we knew that OluKai was losing out on a lot of online sales due to the Magento site and lack of quality work from their old agency," said Brendon Shah, co-founder at PIVOT.
By taking parts of the newer design OluKai did on Magento 2 and then further enhancing those designs for the new Shopify site, PIVOT was able to leverage its team of highly talented designers and developers while working hand in hand with the client. This included going to their office on a regular basis to meet with the OluKai team for iterative reviews, offering recommendations on best practices, and more. As a result, the brand's content pages were simplified, and the filters, sorting, color swatches, etc. on product listing pages were completely redesigned. Product detail pages now tied in content with commerce, and everything was built in Shopify's CMS so OluKai could virtually manage all of the content on the site themselves without having to contact a developer to make changes.
