Shopify Announces Partnership With TikTok For New In-App Shopping

Shopify announced their partnership with TikTok to develop a new feature that allows shoppers to buy directly from Shopify merchants within the social media app. With a 76% increase in TikTok downloads between February 2020 and February 2021, the social media platform continues to dominate the entertainment platform space, and social commerce continues to grow rapidly alongside it. Shopify is the first commerce platform to bring organic product discovery and shopping tabs to TikTok, helping creators and merchants deepen their relationships with consumers.
Creators are paving the way for a new kind of entrepreneurship where content, community, and commerce are key. By enabling new in-app shopping experiences and product discovery on TikTok for the first time, Shopify is powering the creator economy on one of the fastest-growing social and entertainment platforms in the world.
HOW IT WORKS
This feature will be the first of its kind for Shopify merchants who have TikTok Business profiles. This new feature will allow businesses to add a shopping tab to their profiles and sync their product catalogues to create a storefront that will link TikTok shoppers directly to their online store for checkout.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR BRANDS
Shopify merchants will have the ability to tag products directly in their organic TikTok posts with product links. TikTok viewers will have the opportunity to choose to shop directly from the merchant’s storefront or shop through the product tag.
This new partnership will allow Shopify merchants to participate in a pilot program that will allow them to add shopping tabs and product links to their TikTok business profiles and posts. Shopify is expecting to expand this feature to all of their merchants this fall.
